Chillax Market Integrating EduCity Iskandar Community Now Opens

A place to socialise offering local products and providing entrepreneurial opportunities

EduCity Iskandar Malaysia has launched a weekly middle of week market namely Chillax Market in an effort to provide for students and community alike in the area.

Around 5,000 people inclusive of students from 9 reputable education partners — University of Southampton Malaysia, Multimedia University, University of Reading Malaysia, Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia, Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology, Management Development Institute of Singapore, Raffles University, Marlborough College Malaysia and Raffles American School, staff members, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd (PUJB), X Johore Motorsport Scene and local communities had attended the inauguration.

Chillax Market is a collaboration with PUJB to promote entrepreneurship and inculcate an entrepreneurial spirit among students. Improving social skills are vital and can open new doors to new friendships and increase chances of employability. The market saw participation of 44 small and medium enterprises (SME) in Johor (vendors & food trucks), some of which are operated and owned PUJB members.

Managing Director of EduCity Iskandar Malaysia, Wan Ahmad Saifuddin Wan Ahmad Radzi said, that he hopes students, staff, enterprises and local communities gained valuable insights into entrepreneurship by participating in the stalls. He also said we should keep up the spirit as Chillax is open to public every Wednesday from 3pm onwards.

Chillax Market was launched by Exco Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman and he stated that it was an excellent initiative by Educity Iskandar Malaysia as an Education Hub in Johor in line with the emergence of entrepreneurship in Malaysia as well as a good platform to engage with the students from 9 different universities and colleges.
